Andrea De Santis new Dean of Philosophy
The Congregation for Catholic Education has approved the appointment of prof. Andrea De Santis, Acting Dean since December 2020, as Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy for a four-year period.
The Athenaeum community gives its best wishes to prof. De Santis, the first lay person to be elected Dean of one of the Faculties of the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo, for his new post.
On behalf of the University Community, the Rector expresses his thanks to Prof. Philippe Nouzille OSB for his long commitment as Dean of the Faculty from 2011 to 2020.
Biographical notesProf. Andrea De Santis, born in 1964, obtained a Baccalaureate in Theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo, and then continued his studies at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata", graduating and obtaining a doctorate in Philosophy.
Since 1996, he has taught at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Athenaeum and was appointed full professor in 2014. He also has taught at the Pontifical Antonianum University and since 2004 he has been invited lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Gregorian University for conducting seminars for the German-speaking Freisemesterstudenten; he is also part of the study group on Theology of the Image (Bildtheologie) at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Münster.
He is a member of the Italian Society of Aesthetics (SIE), of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft “Philosophie im Studium der katholischen Theologie“, of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetik (DGfÄ) and of the European Society for Aesthetics (ESA). He is a member of the scientific committee of the “Ragione Plurale” Series of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Athenaeum, and since 1999 he has been a member of the editorial staff of the journal of Cultural and Aesthetic Studies “Álgama”. He is the author of three monographs, numerous articles, translations and reviews.
